Thursday, August 23

 8am                     Residence Halls Move-In (Freshman Only) Move-in times are scheduled by last name.  Please visit the Housing and Residence Life website for ful details.  Check-in at the TED Constant Convocation Center
 All Day  Freshman Service Experience (FSE) Freshman Service Experience (FSE) is an optional Week of Welcome event that introduces students to the Monarch Spirit of service and civic engagement.  During the day, students will be introduced to the importance of service in the local and global community as well as spend quality time volunteering at one of serveral nonprofts in the local area. Pre-registration is required to participate and space is limited.  Registration is closed.  Please contact the CSCE at 683-6948 if you are interested in attending.
 6pm  Alumni BBQ Your first dinner as a Monarch is on us! Join the ODU Alumni Association for a barbeque on Kaufman Mall. Enjoy music, games, giveaways and speak with recent graduates.  Connections for life begin your first day on campus!

Friday, August 24

 11am  Spirit Rally

(Lunch included - no meal plan required)

 How much ODU spirit do you have? This Week of Welcome event is one you won't want to miss. This is your chance to learn the cheers and become a part of the Monarch traditions.  Lunch included. The Ted  (THIS EVENT IS REQUIRED FOR ALL INCOMING STUDENTS).
 12pm  Military Student Transitition to ODU  A program for newly enrolled, military-affiliated students.  Students will receive information on benefits, paying for college, academic support and campus resources.  They will also receive last minute assistance with registration or computer account issues. (Registration Required) Webb Center, Hampton Newport News.
 12pm  New Student Resource Fair Ted Constant Convocation Center Plaza.

 1:30pm

 Library, Bookstore, and Find Your Classroom Tours Tours will start from the Ted Constant Convocation Center Plaza.  Last tour begins at 2pm.
 8pm  ODU After Dark: Vegas A casino-themed game night.  Play blackjack, poker, roulette, and other great games!  Everyone has a chance to win prizes including a free semester's worth of books!  Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and Leadership.  Webb Center.

 Saturday, August 25

 9am-2pm  Card Center Open Need help with your student ID card? Visit the card center anytime from 9am-2pm!
 10am                  Advantage U  Get the Advantage!  This program is designed to prepare students for academic success in college. Learn everything you need to be an effective student: how to read a syllabus, study tips, resources offered at ODU, how to work with faculty, classroom behavior, time management, etc. Learn tips, meet faculty, gain the advantage!  Limited seats available - Click here to register.  Webb Center.
 12pm  Virginia Beach Bus Trips Take a trip to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.  Check out www.vbfun.com to see what's going on at the beach, including the East Coast Surfing Championships!  No registration required - just meet at the VIP parking lot on 49th & Webb Center; limited space available; first come, first served.  Bus will arrived at 31st Street & Pacific Ave in Virginia Beach and will depart Virginia Beach for ODU at 4:30 pm  **You must present your ODU Student ID to board the bus!

Big Blue Block Party

Come one�Come all� to the BIG BLUE BLOCK PARTY on Saturday, August 25. 2012 from 4:30pm-8:30pm on the QUAD in front of the Student Recreation Center!  Come for TONS of fun, great music and lots of food!  Activities include:  Bungee Trampoline, Slip n' Slide, Dunk Tank, Racing, Basketball, Corn Hole, Henna Tattoos, Surfing, and so much more.  Also enjoy great prizes, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and more. Sponsored by Recreation and Wellness Student Recreation Center (SRC).

 4pm                    New Student Convocation Your official welcome to ODU from the University President, faculty, staff and a keynote speaker.  Family and guests are welcome.  New Students, please wear black and white professional attire to this ceremony.  The Ted Constant Convocation Center.  (THIS EVENT IS REQUIRED FOR ALL INCOMING STUDENTS.)
 8pm  Residence Hall Meeting (all residence hall students) All students will gather for an overview  of residence hall policies and procedures.  Returning students will receive information on campus safety resources.  Students in first year residential communities will receive information on campus resources which will help them achieve success at ODU.  (All halls, first-year and upper-class have meetings scheduled at this time.)  Location TBA in your residential community.
 9pm  Ease On Down Monarch Way Having trouble finding your classes on the campus map? Want to make sure you're at the right place Monday morning? If so, print a copy of your class schedule (with locations) and meet in your 1st floor lobby residence hall and ease on down to Kaufman Mall to let RAs/CAs and other student leaders show you how to navigate ODU and find your classes!

 6pm  Out of State Student Reception For students who are coming to ODU from a state outside of Virginia! Come mingle at this social / game night! Webb Center, Hampton Newport News 
 8pm  Comedian and Magician Joseph Tran Joseph Tran: a modern-day magician without the cheesy props and the sparkly costumes. One part magician, and one part comedian, this 'Ancient Vietnamese Secret' will leave you rolling with laughter and gasping in amazement! Sponsored by the Student Activities Council Webb Center, North Cafeteria

 Thursday, August 30

 11:30am        Main Street Involvement Fair Student Organization and Volunteer Fair.  Get information about the 300+ student organizations on campus, meet members, and find out how to join!  Also, get information about various service organizations around Hampton Roads and find out how you can make a difference!  Free food!  Kaufman Mall.
 7:30pm  Health and Wellness Speaker Elaine Williams Elaine Williams "Party Fouls" is an award winning standup comedian who has appeared on Saturday Night Live, HBO, NBC, ABC, FOX and Operah.  With Ealine's "Party Fouls" program, she shares her "highly functioning addiction" story.  She shows students why Moderation is sexy and how to party safely and responsibly.  She addresses the pressure of wanting to do well in school while also feeling pressure to connect socially, fit in and be cool.  Elaine uses her training as a Certified Life Coach to fully engage and interact with her audiences.  Students walk away with practical and simple tools after having a transformational and fun experience. Sponsored by Student Health Services Webb Center, North Cafeteria.
