Fitness Center University Village

The Fitness Center University Village (FCUV) was designed to accommodate Old Dominion's growing community. The FCUV is equipped with ergonomically designed, user friendly LifeFitness Cardio and weight machines.  This page will give a brief description about the policies and procedures, along with the equipment available.

The FCUV has the following cardio pieces:

  • 5 LifeFitness Treadmills
  • 5 LifeFitness Ellipticals
  • 3 Recumbent Bikes
  • 2 Upright Bikes
  • 1 Stepmill
  •  1 LifeFitness Stepper
  • 1 Concept 2 Rower

Each cardio machine is limited to a use period of 30 minutes per user, with sign-up board located to the left of the front desk attendant. You may only sign up for a machine up to an hour in advance.   There are also foam mats that can be used for stretching and abdominal exercises.

The FCUV is also equipped with a variety of weight lifting machines, targeted for various muscle groups (Chest, Back, Legs, Arms, Abs, and Shoulders).  This facility also has:

  • 2 Flat Bench Presses
  • 4 universal incline benches
  • LifeFitness Cable Machine
  • LifeFitness Assisted Chin/Dip Machine
  • Hammer Strength Smith Machine and Hammer Strength Olympic Heavy Duty Rack

There is no time limit on these pieces, however it required that they be shared when another participant is waiting.

MicroFit Assessment Program
This is a 20-30 minute appointment with a fitness assessment instructor in FCUV in which students, faculty, and staff can partake in a series of test designed to measure their resting heart rate, blood pressure, cardiovascular, fitness, body fat composition, muscular strength and flexibility.  Participants will receive a detailed description of their results and how they compare with other men and women in the same age group. They will also receive a brief description of how to improve each area.

Those who wish to use this facility are required to either attend and pass a class (PE 171+) or attend a Fitness Clinic that is offered by the Department of Recreational Sports.

Policies and Procedures
In addition, all participants are required to have a towel with them at all times. The wearing of appropriate shoes, shirts, and pants/shorts are also required. Bathing suits do not constitute proper workout attire and are therefore not allowed.
