SANCTIONS
A student who violates the Code of Student Conduct may be subject to sanctions as outlined on pgs. 5-7 of the Student Disciplinary Policies & Procedures. The University has established minimum sanctions for violations involving alcohol and other drugs, and these minimum sanctions are published in the Student Disciplinary Policies & Procedures.
Holds
Students who fail to complete their sanction(s) by the assigned deadline(s) will have a "hold" placed on their course registration privileges. Such holds are not removed until the student has satisfactorily completed his/her sanction(s) as assigned. Information about holds can be found on the Office of the University Registrar's website: http://www.odu.edu/ao/registrar/registering/holds/index.shtml.
Incomplete sanctions may also result in a subsequent referral through the University's judicial process for Code of Student Conduct Section Y: "Violations of the conditions of a sanction imposed through University disciplinary procedures." Please note: the sanction normally imposed for a violation of Section Y is suspension from the University.
Notation of Sanctions on a Student's Academic Transcript
Normally a student's sanctions are not noted on the student's academic transcript, as disciplinary and academic records generally do not converge. However, sanctions of suspension, dismissal and any grade sanction resulting from an act of academic dishonesty will be recorded on the student's official University transcript. Additionally, an "academic dishonesty" notation may be applied to the student's transcript as described in Section VIII.B. of the Student Disciplinary Policies & Procedures. Notations of suspension and dismissal on a student's academic transcript are not subject to removal since disciplinary records involving suspension and dismissal are retained permanently by the Office of Student Judicial Affairs.
Regardless of whether or not a sanction is noted on the student's academic transcript, all sanctions will be recorded in the student's discipline file, which will be maintained by the Office of Student Judicial Affairs.
