Other Opportunities
Freshmen Class Council (FCC), Sophomore Class Council (SCC), and Junior Class Council (JCC)
One way to get involved from day one at ODU is to join the FCC. This council works to promote events on campus specifically to the Freshmen Class. The FCC meets regularly to find ways to get freshmen involved on campus and to keep them informed of upcoming events. The SCC and JCC are similar and work to get ODU sophomores and juniors, respectively, connected to the campus.
The class councils provide leadership opportunities and experiences for ODU freshmen and sophomores. Each Class Council sponsors their own programs and activities. They participate in Relay for Life, athletic events and co-sponsor various other events.
Leadership Book Club
Each semester, various leadership books are suggested and students are given the opportunity to select a book to read. The "club" then meets as a group to discuss the book and the implications of the book on themselves and their leadership skills.
Big Blue Leadership Scholarships
Old Dominion University offers Big Blue Leadership Scholarships to incoming freshmen who have demonstrated excellence in leadership. Students who have served as class officers, athletic team captains, first-chair musicians and other various leadership positions are encouraged to apply.
To be considered, interested applicants must complete the scholarship application form included in the Undergraduate Application for Admission to Old Dominion University. Likewise, students should submit a comprehensive Student Activity Resume and essay with their package.
Leadership Library
The Leadership Library is located in the U-Center on the second floor of Webb Center. The library holds various leadership books, games, simulations, and videos that student leaders can check out for no cost. Leaders are able to use these tools to help make their organizations better. For more information on the library, or to check out materials, stop by the OSAL office.
