Leadership Lab
Each fall, OSAL sponsors a Leadership Lab. During the lab, student leaders have the opportunity to select from informative sessions on many aspects of leadership development. These sessions provide students with the basic essentials that are needed to become successful and effective leaders. More than 250 students attend leadership lab.
Leadership Training and Development
The Leadership Training and Development Lab is comprised of a variety of topics to help improve leadership capabilities of all members of your club/organization. The sessions in this lab are designed to further improve on already existing leadership skills and help your organization and its individual members lead more effectively with integrity and motivation.
Online registration is closed. You can register on site at the Hampton/Newport News room between 11am -4pm Friday Oct 2.

Legendary Leadership in Action
Throughout generations there have been those called on to lead-courageous individuals who have taken great interest in the well-being of others. In the presentation Legendary Leadership in Action, Paul demonstrates concepts crucial to becoming a legendary leader. He outlines ideas that might seem basic at first glance, but are vital for the continued success of any organization. (1) Express genuine interest in mankind; (2) encourage steady streams of dialogue; (3) ignite the eagerness in others; (4) compose unique designs; (5) exhibit authentic actions; (6) reinvent tendencies and techniques; and (7) trust in the truth of courage are the primary concepts introduced during this thought-provoking and energetic presentation.

Inspired Teamwork & Leadership
The strength of a team is centered around the individuals who comprise the group; the strength of a leader begins with the team. In Inspired Teamwork & Leadership, Paul details the following significant traits: (1) dare to dream courageously; (2) establish a course of action; (3) empower others to imagine; (4) unite a common bond; and (5) be resilient like none other. Uniting for a common cause, understanding and respecting diversity and encouraging individuals through positive actions are all elements of this empowering presentation.

Confused about the SGA budget process? Don't know what the SGA wants from you when filling out your budget? Why is this process important? This session will help answer all of these questions and any others you may possibly have by taking you step-by-step through the process online in order for you and your student organization to create the best budget EVER!

Advisors' Rights and Responsibilities: 1pm (For student organization advisors)

Advising student organizations is an important responsibility for faculty and administrative staff at American universities. The involvement of these persons enriches the lives of students and provides them with needed guidance as they advance their leadership skills, and enjoy the benefits of organizational participation. However, service as an advisor brings with it certain responsibilities and liabilities and thus should not be taken lightly. This session will address the importance, obligations and risks of service as an organizational advisor and suggest ways that the experience can enrich the advisor as well as the students while minimizing risk and liability.

Wouldn't it be nice to use the media equipment that's installed in the classrooms? In order to use that equipment, a member from your group must be trained on how to turn on the media and what can be connected to the equipment. Your name will be added to the list of people that are able to check out the media keys. AV/Tech training will be provided for the equipment not in the mediated classrooms.
Ethical Decision Making: 2pm & 4pm

Decisions can challenge a leader's personal or organizational values. This interactive session will include activities to help clarify your values and guide your decision-making so you are better prepared to make decisions without sacrificing your integrity.

DiSCovering Your Leadership Style: 3pm

Do you know what your "leadership style" is? If not, come and find out! This session will have the participants take a personal leadership inventory, called the DiSC. We will then explore the good, the bad and the ugly of each of the four styles and how leaders can best work with each type of leadership style. You are sure to have some "ah ha" moments in this interactive session!
Creating a Thrifty, Green Organization: 3pm
Amelia Baker, Owner of Green Alternatives
Join fellow university organization leaders to learn the ins and outs of greening your group. Amelia Baker, owner of Green Alternatives in Norfolk, will be guiding you through planet-friendly alternatives and helping you to avoid green-washing. This interactive discussion will strive to answer your eco-issues in economical, sensible ways.
Ace that Interview: 2pm

So you finally got the interview for your dream job. Now What? Learn the ins and outs of the interviewing process. The presenter will review commonly asked questions, dress attire, and overall interview etiquette. Come and learn how to land the job of you dreams!
Rosters and Co-Curricular Transcripts: How Do They Work? 3pm & 4pm
Tiffany Wiggins, Graduate Assistant, Office of Student Affairs & Program Coordinator for the Sophomore Success Program
During this session, individuals will learn how to navigate the organization roster system to help manage their membership records and how the roster system works in conjunction with the Co-Curricular Transcript. Additionally, participants will be shown how to submit information for SGA's Minimum Standards and Point System.
Goal Setting: 4pm

This session will help you learn to set goals as an officer within your organization and how those goals must be connected with the rest of your officers and the organizations' purpose.
