Being a student here at Old Dominion in itself is already great, but being a part of the FSI program is even better! It allows you to interact and meet new people, builds leadership skills and gives you a head start on your future involvement on campus. I attended FSI the summer of 2007 and it was very influential to my role as a student here at Old Dominion. Good luck class of 2013 and welcome!!! :) |

Kt Fanelli Sophomore Major: Theatre Arts with an emphasis on Acting
FSI is one of the major reasons I love Old Dominion University so much. I made so many great connections through FSI last summer and it really helped me get connected on campus as well as gave me the courage to go out and make a difference. Because of FSI, I was able to make the connections to join the sorority I am in, start my very own club and have many great first year experiences. Besides being a leader on campus I enjoy photography, finding new music as well as finding new and interesting movies. I love going to school so close to the beach and love the friends and people I've met here at ODU! I cannot wait to meet our marvelous incoming freshman during FSI 2009! |

I'm from Newport News, VA. I think FSI is the best thing you can do before coming to ODU, you'll already have tons of friends when you get to ODU on the first day and will definitely be ready to be involved and comfortable with everything going on around you on campus!

I think FSI is an awesome program for all incoming freshman to attend so they can get a head start on what college life is like. Not only do you develop your leadership skills and do your part to help the community, you will meet new people who become a part of your ODU family. |

Tiffany Gibson Senior Major: History and Political Science
I plan to attend law school in D.C after graduation from ODU, and in the future become more involved in politics. On campus I am involved in Student Government, the President of ODU Young Democrats, and involved in the Pre-law association. Off campus, I serve on the Norfolk Democratic City Committee, and have been involved in every kind of local, state, and national election imaginable. Last spring I was a District intern for Congressman Glenn Nye and this summer I am attending UVA's Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership. I can't wait to meet the up and coming leaders here at ODU! |
 |
Charis Booker Junior Major: Communication Minor: Dance and Theatre I served as president of hall council in my freshman dorm and loved the experience. After that I became involved with campus organizations such as Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Student Government, Success Without Limitations, and T.R.U.S.T. all of which were outstanding organizations that improved my college experience tremendously. I love doing community service and helping out the community and campus in anyway possible. Some of my favorite fun things to do are shopping, ballet, and going to the beach. Attending FSI will be the first step in helping you to achieve your goals, expand your horizons, and develop leadership and teamwork skills. Staying focused and involved on campus will make your freshman experience and college years as memorable and productive as possible. |

Mary "Alana" Welch Senior Majors: Communication and English Hometown: Alexandria, VA Favorite Color: Dark Blue
I chose to be an FSI counselor because I wanted to take part in welcoming so many new students with so much potential to ODU. I thought I could play a part in cracking shells and opening minds to new possibilities. I want to make the transition for others easier than my own, and I want to give back to the school at least SOME of what it's given me. |
 |

I was an FSI Counselor last year for both sessions and it was an amazing experience. I'm very involved on campus, both in my sorority, as well as currently serving as the Panhellenic Council's Vice President of Recruitment. I went to LeaderShape last summer, and served as the campus intern this year. FSI is such a great opportunity for freshmen to get their feet in the door of involvement at ODU and beginning their journey of truly making a difference! |

Nelson Villamon Senior Double Major: Psychology and Communications with an emphasis in International and Intercultural Communication
My major involvements on campus include Sigma Nu Fraternity and Foreign Language Tutorial Services (FLTS), however, I have participated in multiple campus organizations during my time at ODU. I also work on campus in the Office of Intercultural Relations where I'm a Program Coordinator in charge of ODU's Diversity Institute. We also hold other campus programs such as Cultural Explosion, the International Festival and Hip Hop Across Cultures which are just a few events you can have fun at!
I believe FSI is a great opportunity for incoming students to begin building social and academic networks with other student leaders. I believe in order to maximize your college experience you should definitely get involved in at least one or two campus organizations. Good luck during your time here and please remember that if you need help with anything I always have time for a fellow Monarch! |

Amelia Solano Senior Major: Psychology Minor: Criminal Justice I transferred into Old Dominion as a junior, after completing my associates. The enrollment/registration process was very difficult for me because I was very new to the area, I did not know anyone, and I didn't know anything about the ODU campus! However, after a few weeks, I fell right into the groove! I got involved with multiple campus programs and organizations such as Psi Chi, The National Honor Society for Psychology Students, M-Power Peer Education through the Women's Center, Alternative Breaks Council (*Make sure you ask about this, it is an amazing opportunity!), and I was able to get more involved within the psychology department. I have learned so much throughout the time I have been at ODU and I can't wait to share that knowledge with all of the incoming freshmen leaders that I will meet during FSI! There are so many different ways to get involved within the ODU community, and I would like to make sure that as an incoming student, you are getting the best experience as possible! |

Megan Morrow Senior Major: Photojournalism Minor: Marketing
"FSI makes you so comfortable with being new to the university. You come into the fall semester knowing your way around the campus and you've already begun making a great group of friends. The number one way to enjoy college is to get involved, and FSI is your first step in right direction!" |
 |
Tishaun Dennis Sophomore Major: Graphic Design Hometown: Richmond, VA "Everyone that applies themself in life should experience the opportunity to attend college because it helps the process of growth and maturity in different ways. There are many different activities, events and opportunities that are provided in college that many people don't get the chance to experience. Being an FSI counselor I will inform the rising class on things they should know about college and what to be ready for or prepare them for. I was a participant in FSI last year so I know that it's a good opportunity and their college attendance is usually easier and sometimes more successful because of this program." |
