Hispanic Heritage Month at ODU
Old Dominion University’s commitment to an inclusive community that values the contributions, traditions, diverse beliefs and expressions of our Hispanic and Latino communities is reflected each year in our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15). We invite you to explore the scheduled events that will capture the meaning of this year’s national theme, “Diversity United, Building America’s Future Today”.

The following Hispanic Heritage Month events are all hosted on ODU’s campus.
September 17

- 6-8PM: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Big Blue Room, Ted Constant Convocation Center - Free parking is located in the 43rd street garage.
- Free and Open to the Public.
- Featuring Dr. Inés Bustillo, Director of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean Washington DC Office.
She joined ECLAC in 1989 as Economic Affairs Officer working on a variety of topics including macroeconomic analysis, international trade, and finance.
Previously, Dr. Bustillo was Professor of Economics at Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City and Visiting Faculty at The American University in Washington D.C. Other positions held include consultant to the World Bank, the Center for Latin American and Monetary Studies (CEMLA), Operadora de Bolsa in Mexico City.
She is the author of several articles and a frequent lecturer at universities, think tanks, and other fora.
Dr. Bustillo, a national of Uruguay, earned an M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from The American University.
