GENERAL REMINDERS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

12 September 2006

Change in URL for ISSS:  Please note that due to our shift to the Student Affairs division over the summer, our web site is now accessible via http://www.odu.edu/isss or http://studentaffairs.odu.edu/isss.  Some of you may need to re-set bookmarks.

Condolences for Leelavinothan Family:  If you would like to get a message of condolence to the family of Karthik Leelavinothan, who passed away on 3 September, you can drop a card off at ISSS and/or sign a sheet for the memory book we are compiling for the family.  We will collect cards and signatures through the end of business on Friday.

Have You or Your Family Moved?:  Don't forget that F & J visa holders must keep THREE addresses current:  SEVIS Permanent Foreign Address (your family's home in your country), SEVIS Domestic Address (your U.S. address) and the address called "Permanent" on LeoOnline (usually the same as the SEVIS Domestic Address).  The two SEVIS addresses should be updated on the ISSS site within 5 days of a move and the other on LeoOnline.  For non-F or non-J visa holders, please be sure to keep the LeoOnline "Permanent" address current as it is what ODU uses for mailings.

Full-Time Status Letter for Students With Approved Reduced Courseloads:  If your supervisor requires a letter from ISSS stating that you are considered to be full-time with less than nine credits (graduates) or twelve credits (undergraduates), please request a letter.  You should select "Other" for the letter reason and type in "RCL letter" in the text box on the form.  Letters will be issued two business days after your RCL is approved.

PREVIEW Counselors Needed:  The Office of Orientation/PREVIEW is seeking enthusiastic students to apply as PREVIEW Counselors for the 2007 year. Interested students are encouraged to attend one of two informational sessions which will be held on:

Monday, September 18, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Cape Charles/Isle of Wight Rooms (Webb)
OR
Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. in the Portsmouth/Virginia Beach Rooms (Webb)

Applications will be available beginning on Thursday, September 14, 2006 and are due to the PREVIEW Office (Webb Center Room 1101) no later than Friday, October 13, 2006. Additional information and applications will be available at the PREVIEW Office and online (click on Additional Resources for Job Opportunities).  Be a leader and make a difference in the lives of our new students!

Financial Penalties--How to Avoid Them!:  If you have outstanding charges on September 19, you will be subject to financial penalties.  For accounts that are 30 days past due, there will be a 10% late penalty; accounts that are 60 days, the debt is forwarded to collections and 33 1/3% collection fees are added to charges.  E-bills are the only billing method at ODU, so failure to receive a billing statement does not release you from payment responsibility - be sure to check your ODU e-mail (xxxxx001@odu.edu) weekly.  Questions?  Please contact the Office of Finance directly.

CPT Q&A Express:  Besides I-9 paperwork and insurance, Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for F-1s is one of the most common reasons students stop by Dragas.  Due to its success last semester, we are bringing back the CPT Q&A Express as a way to help you get the answers you want as quickly as possible.  Please note that we cannot "just look over your application to see if anything is missing"...you should come with specific questions about the forms and/or the application process.  CPT Q & A Express Hours:  Mondays & Wednesdays:  10:00-11:30 and Thursdays & Fridays:  1:30-3:00.

SOCCER!!!:  Come cheer for ODU at this weekend's Stihl Soccer Classic.  The tailgate party begins at 5:30 p.m. at the soccer field and the game will start at 7 p.m.  There will be free fun, food and games for students with an ODU ID card.

Making Appointments:  Our appointment tool is up again with time slots available for all of the advisors.  We strongly suggest you e-mail us before making an appointment in case your situation requires that a form be submitted or that you contact another department.  It is our policy to respond within one business day, barring unusual situations and/or the hectic nature of the beginning of a new semester.  E-mailing our office account instead of your advisor allows another advisor to answer your question in case your advisor is out of the office.
