Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for Residence Hall Directors with the Office of Housing and Residence Life.  ODU is a state-funded Carnegie/doctoral research institution enrolling nearly 21,000 students:  14,209 undergraduates and 6,593 graduates.  It is located in Norfolk, one of the cities making up the Hampton Roads region of Southeastern Virginia.  Old Dominion has six residence halls and three apartment complexes with the first Scholarship House, a small eight person building for women business majors, completed in August 2008, and plans for three additional residence halls to come on line in 2009.  Together, these residential facilities house more than 4,600 students by fall 2009.

Reporting to the Area Coordinator, the Residence Hall Director (RHD) is responsible for the overall supervision and administration of a comprehensive residential living and learning environment to promote personal, academic, and social growth of residents and staff.  The RHD assists with the development of staff recruitment, selection, training and evaluation; professional development opportunities for staff; acts as a University Pre-Hearing Officer adjudicating housing policy violations, assists in managing an area programming budget; and participates in an on-call duty rotation. Positions may also include support of a smooth transition for first year students to ODU, to enhance student success and satisfaction with their residential experience, and to foster a sense of connection and pride to the University community. 

This is a full-time, 12 month, Faculty Administrative, live-in position. Compensation package will include a $30,000-$32,000 salary (commensurate with experience), an on-campus apartment (pets permitted), meal plan, and full-university benefits, including tuition assistance after one year. Anticipated start date is June 25, 2009. 

Qualifications:  A Master's in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field required. A demonstrated record of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience in residence life/housing preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated effective administrative and managerial skills including supervision and experience in both the theory and application of student learning and development.  Candidates should possess excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to customer service and a demonstrated understanding and appreciation for cultural competence. Experience in first-year learning theory, sophomore learning theory, or upper-class learning theory a plus.
