First-Year Students

International Connection

International Connection is where international and American students will participate in programs and activities designed to increase cultural awareness while expanding their knowledge of global affairs. This living option is located in Powhatan I.

Academic Year Option-Open During Breaks and Holidays

Select areas, within our residence halls and apartments, remain open during Thanksgiving, semester break and spring break, while other residence halls are closed. The Academic Year Option-open during breaks and holidays covers from the first day of check-in in August until the last day the residence halls are open for the spring semester in May. The choices for freshmen are among the following:

• The Virginia House-Honors College Freshmen only
• Whitehurst Hall

Honors Housing

This living option is for students who are in the Honors College. The Honors College living option is located in Virginia House.

Double Room

A room with a roommate. This is considered the traditional style in student housing.

Coed

This is where there are single sex suites on a coed floor or single sex apartments in a coed complex. For example, on a hall you may have 1 male suite next door to 1 female suite. All of our residence halls are coed except for 3 single sex wings in Whitehurst.

Single Sex

This is where all residents of the wing are either male or female. Whitehurst has a single sex wing for females and one for males.
