Applying for Housing

Once you are admitted to Old Dominion University you will receive an on-campus housing packet from the Office of Admissions.

The packet will contain the Old Dominion University Campus Living 2008-2009 brochure, Student Housing Application an envelope to return the application with a $150 spring 2009 prepayment.

Upon receipt of this paperwork, you may complete the Student Housing Application, sign the Agreement on the back of the form and return it in the green envelop. If you live locally, you may also drop off the paperwork to the Office of Finance in Rollins Hall.

After we receive your completed application and $150 prepayment we will enter you in to our housing computer system.  We will then be able to communicate instructions to you, via your new University email account,  what the NEXT STEP will be.  This is the step where you tell us what your preferences are for buildings and meal plans.  Be patient and keep checking your email.

Before you begin...

  • Read all the information completely and carefully.
  • Apply early! The later you apply, the less likely it is that you will get your first choice of building and possibly your preferred roommate.
  • Refund policy - The prepayment is refundable if cancellation is made in writing to the Office of Student Housing before May 1, 2008 for the fall semester and November 1, 2008 for the spring semester. This includes prepayments made after the refund deadline. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions of the Student Housing Agreement.
  • Assignment Policy - Acceptance of the Student Housing Agreement does not guarantee a specific room assignment. Room assignments are primarily based upon the date of application and personal data listed on the agreement. No specific room assignment is guaranteed or implied. The resident understands that the University makes all assignments based on the University's non-discriminatory statement. If housing demand exceeds room-assignment capacity, the University reserves the right to use designated temporary room assignments pending assignment/relocation to a permanent living space. If a vacancy occurs in an assigned room, the remaining resident agrees to accept another roommate, as assigned, move into another room if requested, or pay the additional charges for single occupancy. Options depend upon availability at the time of consolidation.

Priority for on campus housing is based on academic classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, etc.) and the date the completed application packet (application and housing agreement) and a $150 spring prepayment are received.  Old Dominion University makes every effort to accommodate housing requests, however, please note that due to space limitations, completion of a housing application/agreement and receipt of $150 does not guarantee a room assignment

Most correspondence will be sent to you via your university email account so please make sure your check it regularly.
