Things to Know

Services Provided

For appointments call (757) 683-3132, or stop by Student Health Services, 1007 S. Webb Center, anytime between 8:00 a.m. until 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. During the fall and spring semesters, Student Health has extended hours on Wednesdays until 7:00 p.m.

Remember to call Student Health Services at least 2 hours (in advance) to cancel your scheduled appointment, or a $10 "no show fee" will be charged to your student account.  If you arrive 10 minutes or more late for your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.

Medical Services

Student Health Services provides primary care including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute illness and ongoing care for chonic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure. We also provide family planning services, including annual gynecolgoical exams and pap smears, as well as low cost birth control options, emergency contraception, and screening for sexually transmitted infections. We offer tuberculosis screening and all the state required vaccines (although supply may be limited at times).  In the fall, flu shots are offered for students and faculty/staff. Students needing allergy shots can receive them for a nominal fee at Student Health, but the first shot must be given at the allergist's office.

Laboratory Services

Most routine lab work is performed in our own clinical laboratory. It may be necessary to refer some tests to an outside laboratory. Fees are charged for all lab tests done, but are generally lower than community standard (see fee schedule).

Xrays

Students are currently referred off campus to outpatient xray facilities in the local community. These xrays are usually billed to the student's insurance by the facility performing the xrays.
