New UrineTest For Chlamydia

We are now offering a new test for chlamydia that can be done either with a swab or with urine. The new chlamydia test is the latest in technology, a nucleic acid amplication test that is very accurate and reasonably priced ($13).

Preparation for the test includes not urinating for at least an hour prior to testing.

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection among college students in the United States today and here at ODU. Chlamydia can cause pelvic infections and infertility in females, and urethritis and testicular-related infections in males.

The only 100% effective method of prevention is abstinence from sex, however,  reducing the number of sexual partners and consistent condom use when having sex will reduce the transmission of chlamydia infections.

To be screened for chlamydia, just call Student Health Services for an appointment at (757) 683-3132.
