Health Insurance Information for 2007-2008
Old Dominion University recommends that all students have adequate health insurace coverage to cover services beyond the scope of the campus health center. The University does not sponsor a group student health insurance plan, but provides resources for students to search for individual health insurance plans. If you are not covered by a group plan (parents, spouse or employer sponsored), here is some information that may assist you in searching for an individual or family plan. It is important to read carefully and consider all of your options when making a decision about purchasing health insurance for yourself or your family. Make sure you get a thorough explanation of benefits that are covered, any plan exclusions or limitations, whether you are required to use a network of providers, plan maximum, deductibles and copays and whether there is an out-of-pocket annual maximum. Be aware that some individual plans limit coverage for mental health conditions or do not cover pregnancy unless you request a pregnancy rider. Even if you have never had psychological problems, you should expect to find this coverage in any good policy.
