Prioritizing
Think about your long term, weekly, and daily goals on a regular and consistent basis. Students typically begin with an ultimate goal of completing college (and getting a good job.) Begin to prioritize by first focusing on the goals you want to accomplish today that will help you reach your long term goals. A few tips for prioritizing include:
- Develop a "To Do" list for each day. Focus on today.
- Look at each item on your list and rate them according to how important they are. (A typical rating scale for prioritizing uses an ABC rating: "A's" are the most important, "B's" are less important, "C's" can be put off for another day or when the "A" and "B" list are completed. Another model of prioritizing include a 4-quadrant system. Try them out for yourself and see what works for you.
- Work on the "A" items first!
- Check or cross off each item as you complete it.
